Honoring our Saints!
How are you all doing? We just had our Gallery of Saints. The 8th graders prepared a wonderful gallery. They all dressed up as a saint such as St. Lorenzo Ruiz, St. Teresa de los Andes, St. Emiliana, St. Ignacious of Loyola, St. Elizabeth of Portugal, and more! They all gave an excerpt of what their lives were about and what they did to become a saint.
It was such a beautiful gallery that the students really enjoyed. Jason Perez, a 6th grader, said: “Gallery of Saints was really good and the saints were very interesting”. He also comments that St. Genevieve was his favorite Saint.
Well that’s all for today. See you next time!

The success of Catholic School Education
I want to share with you the information on the study our school participated in which was conducted by Loyola Marymount University.
The new research from the LMUSchool of Education found that 98.2% of Catholic school students graduated from high school and an almost equal proportion, 97.6%, continued to some type of post-secondary education. Currently, the Los Angeles Unified School District reports that its highschool graduation rate is as low as 55%.
“This study demonstrates the success Catholic schools have educating some of the most economically disadvantaged youth in Los Angeles,” said Shane P. Martin, dean and professor for the LMU School of Education and co-author of the study.
“Students attending Catholic schools in inner-city neighborhoods are completing arigorous curriculum, outperforming their peers on national standardized tests, graduating from high school in exceptional numbers, and going on to college at a very successful rate.”
At a time when the nation’s Catholic schools face many challenges-declining enrollment, changing ethnic and socioeconomic demographics, and shrinking financial support-this research shows that Catholic schools are able to provide a higher-quality education at a lower per-pupil cost. This study confirms that in many parts of innercity Los Angeles, the local Catholic school is not only the strongest educational option for students; it is the best way to invest in their potential and in the common good of our local communities.
Thank you for choosing a Catholic education as a valuable option to invest in your child’s future. We ask you to encourage other parents to give their children the opportunity of a Catholic education.

For Those with Students in Public Schools…..
Most of California’s Catholic families with school-age children choose to enroll them in the state’s public schools—rather than in Catholic or other private schools. However, many families are unfamiliar with the laws that govern what their child will be allowed to do—or asked to do—and unaware of certain ideas and information their child will be taught while at school.

Catholic Schools Remain Faithful to their Evangelizing Mission
While Catholic schools traditionally are prized for their high academic standards and orderly behavior, occasionally the evangelizing mission of schools is taken for granted. After all, aren’t all students in Catholic schools Catholic?
